On September 25th, the Language and Culture Center invited Professor Su Yingxia from Beijing Language and Culture University to conduct professional training for all full-time and part-time Chinese teachers. Professor Su Yingxia gave a lecture entitled "Essentials of Chinese Skill Teaching", explaining in detail the concept, steps and techniques of skill-based teaching in Chinese class.
Professor Su Yingxia is deputy Director of the Division of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). She used to be the guest professor of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute of Keimyung University in South Korea. She has been to South Korea, Italy, Denmark, France and other countries for Chinese teacher training. Since 2020, Professor Su has been a guest expert of the "Perfect Distance Training for Chinese Language Teachers" public welfare project sponsored by the China Chinese Language Education Foundation.
Professor Su Yingxia's research interest is the teaching of vocabulary and grammar as well as textbook compilation.She has published many papers in academic journals such as "Linguistic Research", "Chinese Language Learning", and "Journal of International Chinese Teaching". She has published many Chinese textbooks at home and abroad, such as the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" national planning textbook for general higher education "An Introduction to Spoken Chinese" (Part I and II), etc., which is recognized as a master of Chinese teaching in China.
In the lecture, Professor Su Yingxia pointed out that the boundary of language skills teaching is not clear at present. For example, the oral class into a comprehensive class, the listening class into oral class or intensive reading class. In response to this kind of teaching misunderstanding, Professor Su Yingxia used the same teaching material and adopted different teaching designs to clearly highlight the features of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills teaching. Starting from the features of different lesson types, she explained in detail the teaching steps, teaching links, and teaching design of each lesson type. She also quoted a large number of teaching examples accumulated over the years, humorous and clearly explained the perplexity of full-time and part-time Chinese teachers in the Language and Culture Center, which clarified the teaching ideas and methods for the teachers.
The training was hosted by Jiang Yonghua, Vice Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Deputy Director of the Language and Culture Center. Jiang thanked Professor Su Yingxia for carrying out the training for Chinese teachers in our school many times, indicating the development plan of the Language and Culture Center to improve the teaching level of Chinese teachers. Ms. Tang Min, director of international Chinese Teaching department, made a summary of the training and put forward more detailed requirements for all full-time and part-time Chinese teachers in this semester.
