April 20 was designated as Chinese Language Day by the United Nations to commemorate the contribution of Cangjie to the creation of Chinese characters during the Grain Rain and the birth of Chinese characters more than 5,000 years ago. Centre for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Chinese Plus organized the “International Chinese Language Day - Reciting Chinese Classics Video Collection”. The reciting work “Night of Flowers and Moonlight on the Spring River” presented by the Language and Culture Center was selected as the outstanding work of 2022 International Chinese Language Day, and became the first work to be shown on the Chinese Plus video platform.

Since March, the International Chinese Language Teaching Department of the Language and Culture Centre has been making preparations, and all full-time Chinese teachers and administrative staff have been working together to rehearse and polish the international students’ reciting work. Finally, “Night of Flowers and Moonlight on the Spring River” recited by international students' group has been selected as the contribution of Jiangsu University to the “International Chinese Language Day - Reciting Chinese Classics Video Collection”. Five international students, Yang Jing and Roger from Zimbabwe, Jing Mei from Ghana, Wang Tian from India and Nilda from Comoros, dressed in Chinese costumes, moved between the flowers and trees and by the banks of the flowing water, reciting aloud, thus showing the mood and elegance of the famous Tang poem in a novel form and with full emotion.

This year is the third International Chinese Language Day, and the Language and Culture Centre of Jiangsu University has not only participated in the “Reciting Chinese Classics Video Collection”, but also organized a series of activities on the theme of “International Chinese Language Day” to promote the exchange of experience and acquisition on learning Chinese on this important day, to create an atmosphere of learning, loving and speaking Chinese, and to enhance the international influence of Chinese.
