On November 25th, the Language and Culture Center at Jiangsu University and Botswana Chinese Language Education and Tutoring Center successfully signed an agreement online. Professor Ren Xiaofei, the Director of the Language and Culture Center, and Mrs. Ma Benjie, the Principal of the Botswana Chinese Education and Tutoring Center, signed the agreement on behalf of both institutions. The ceremony was hosted by Jiang Yonghua, the Deputy Director of the Language and Culture Center.
After signing the agreement, the Language and Culture Center of Jiangsu University and Botswana Chinese Education and Tutoring Center will cooperate in the teacher training of Chinese education, the development of teaching materials, the digital resources teaching system, as well as Jiangnan culture experience research, so as to jointly promote the high-quality development of Chinese language education.
The “Virtual Chinese Schools Hand in Hand” event is an important initiative proposed by Jiangsu Provincial United Front Work Department and the Department of Education of Jiangsu Province, to fully implement the central government's cultural spirit on strengthening Chinese language education work in foreign countries and promoting the standardization, formalization, professionalization, and information construction of Chinese language education. It is reported that more than 100 institutions in Jiangsu Province and overseas Chinese schools have established cooperative relationships this time.
Established in May 2017 and funded by the principal, Mrs. Ma, the Botswana Chinese Language Education and Tutoring Center is a non-profit education institution mainly teaching Chinese and Mathematics to local Ethnic Chinese youths, supplemented by martial arts, painting, dancing, and other subjects.
The Language and Culture Center of Jiangsu University is an essential functional department, taking in charge of the school-running internationalization. This center always serves the internationalization of the university's student training and Chinese cultural dissemination as its mission. Besides, in recent years, the Language and Culture Center has been forging ahead in Chinese language education. It has contributed its expertise to the development of Chinese language education by successfully organizing activities such as the "Roots-Seeking Journey" winter camp for overseas Chinese youths, “A Kinship to China - Storytelling for You" online summer camp, online Chinese learning camp, and public lectures for overseas Chinese teachers.
